Speciality & Classic

Classic & Speciality

Older engines were designed around older oils. These grades carry the additive levels, viscosities and seal compatibility that pre-1980 engines and gearboxes actually need.

Why this range

Classic, vintage and speciality lubricants

Bohr Chemical classic and speciality oils are formulated for pre-modern engines that need higher zinc anti-wear levels, monograde viscosity and seal-friendly chemistry. These fills suit flat-tappet camshafts, running-in, and restoration work where modern low-SAPS oils are the wrong tool.

Higher ZDDP levels

Protects flat-tappet camshafts and lifters that modern low-phosphorus oils are not designed for.

Seal-friendly chemistry

Base fluids chosen to avoid swelling or hardening older seal and gasket materials.

Monograde availability

Correct viscosity behaviour for engines specified before multigrade oils existed.

Typical applications

  • Veteran, vintage and classic engines
  • Flat-tappet performance engines
  • Engine running-in after rebuild
  • Restoration and low-use storage fills

Common questions

Classic & Speciality FAQ

Why does a classic engine need higher zinc?

Flat-tappet valvetrains rely on a sacrificial ZDDP anti-wear film. Modern oils cap phosphorus to protect catalytic converters, which leaves those camshafts under-protected.

Should a rebuilt engine use a running-in oil?

Yes. A dedicated running-in fill helps bed rings and bearings, and should be drained early to remove assembly debris.
